Supreme Court
"The power of the American Court is the power of the trust earned, the power of the American People"
This was said in a video about the supreme court I recently watched, I have included the link. To me, this quote was very powerful. The Supreme Court of the United States remains the most powerful judicial body on earth. In the Supreme Court, the court gets nearly seventy thousand petitions a year for a case. Of those seventy thousand petitions, only about one hundred are accepted a year to be held. There is a Latin word for this term, called Certiorari, meaning the power of the court to pick and choose which case it takes.
This just shows how high of a ranking the Supreme Court holds in the United States. First there is District court, then Appeals court, then finally the Supreme Court. Major cases are usually the only ones held in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court was originally established in 1789, and court cases are still held in the same building.
The supreme court relies highly on majority opinion, which is reviewed by court justices. The court Justices can add to these opinions. Decisions and Adjustments can go on for a dozen or more months in special cases. Rarely will justice switch sides, or minority will become majority decision.
Overall, I believe that the court has always done a good job in making good decisions for the US. I think they have been getting too much criticism. The Justices in the supreme court work very hard year after year to make sure that these decisions are the right ones.
